Bas van der Schot (1970) is a political cartoonist and illustrator, based in Amsterdam and Berlin. His political cartoons appear three times a week in the Dutch daily newspaper de Volkskrant. His work is distributed abroad via Courrier International, Cartoonists & Writers Syndicate and Cagle.

After finishing my studies at the University of Amsterdam (political science) my cartoons have been published in several Dutch daily newspapers and magazines. Since 2011 I work as an editorial cartoonist for de Volkskrant, the largest quality newspaper in the Netherlands.

I like clear, simple drawings as an antidote to the daily overload of news, opinions and images. My ideal is the directness of a children’s drawing. Political cartoons don’t change the world, but I am happy with every reader who identifies with a drawing of mine.
